Walking the classrooms of Collina Kids last week I was transported to the days of the pioneers. Our students learned about the past, discussed the history of the world, how much things have changed as well as connecting experiences from the past to present day life. We had students writing with quill pens and ink, making pioneer bread, fresh squeezed lemonade, bee’s wax candles and bonnets. The younger classes worked together to shake, shake, shake cream to make it into butter. The students were able to experience a small part of the day without electricity and discussed how electricity has changed the way children play. The idea of no electronics or T.V. was almost unimaginable for our students. Our children had ton of fun exploring the past.
